The publication focuses on Graßnick’s own training period at the Technical University in Darmstadt immediately after the Second World War, when Graßnick counted among his teachers such diverse characters as the former Bauhäusler and author of the Bauordnungslehre (BOL), Ernst Neufert, but also the Friedrich Ostendorf student Karl Gruber and the architect of the legendary Cologne Cathedral seal, Wilhelm Schorn.
Ulf Schulte-Umberg and Britta Hentschel complement this unusual commemorative publication with contributions on the architectural history of the Palatinate and report on the results of their research on the collegiate church in Kaiserslautern and the church of the Cistercian monastery in Otterberg and on the Fruchthalle in Kaiserslautern. A catalog appendix documents high-quality drawings by Graßnick’s own hand from his time as a budding architect, as well as those by others. For example, the Graßnick collection includes drawings by the now largely forgotten Frankfurt architect H.F.W. Kramer, who was responsible for the construction of the famous Frankfurt Grossmarkthalle in the 1920s under Martin Elsaesser, which today forms the vestibule of the EZB Tower.
