Architekturschulen

Whether the Madrid School, the Weinbrenner School or the Vorarlberg School of Architecture – school names are common labels in international architectural education. The “Architekturschule” or “School of Architecture” is still effective today as a trademark and identification model; the term has not lost its appeal since the 19th century. The reference to educational origins is as common in academic architectural education as it is in the humanities. Design teachers in particular think they can tell whether a student or diploma candidate comes from Weimar, London, or Braunschweig. The question of the “school of architecture” is topical and will remain so as long as the best form of training for architects is sought and students are concerned about the most promising place to study.
