On three prefaces and with two chapters, Brenner builds a plea for an architecture of the city. Against the background of his explanation of the concepts of design, rationalism, and theatricality, he traces the significance of the coherence of square and house for the spatial formation of the city, which finds expression in the façade of the rowed, urban house: “Squares? – Yes! Houses? – Yes! Facades? – Yes! In this series, the architectural facade (as a backdrop in the square and a mask between inside and outside) represents the most concrete theme of urban architecture, which is first of all, when it comes to the question of design, a question of proportion and scale.”
