STADT BAUEN 3
Deutscher Städtebaupreis 2010
This volume in the STADT BAUEN series of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning documents the German Urban Development Award 2010 and at the same time presents a record of achievement for urban planning in Germany under the current challenges: In the future, the central tasks will not be the new construction and expansion of cities, but above all the transformation, conversion and addition to the existing stock. In addition to exemplary projects, this volume also documents the lectures and discussions held at the special award symposium.

The special award 2010 was dedicated to the topic “City and Knowledge”. More than ever before, knowledge and education have become not only a central factor in individual lifestyles, but also a ferment of social integration of old and young, rich and poor, and not least of Germans and migrants that can hardly be overestimated. Today, we associate places of knowledge and education not only with traditional educational institutions such as schools and universities, but also with kindergartens, preschools, youth centers, adult education centers, libraries and continuing education centers of all kinds in the spirit of “lifelong learning”.
