Ein neuer Blick
Architekturfotografie aus den Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin
On the occasion of the reopening of the splendidly renovated Kaisersaal, the Collection shows Photography - Museum of Photography of the Art Library shows hidden treasures from the collections of the National Museums in Berlin. Architectural photography has been present in many collections from the very beginning; images of bamboo huts as well as ancient ruins can be found in the Ethnological Museum, photographs of the pyramids in the Egyptian Museum, images of Indian mosques in the Museum of Asian Art, and architectural photographs of classical modernist buildings in the Art Library. In several deep drills, these photographs, hitherto known only to specialists and scholars, are lifted and presented as examples of one of the most important genres of photography. In 18 chapters, the catalog shows the rich diversity of the collections, analyzes the complex medial handling of the photographs, and thus attempts a different, non-canonical history of architectural photography.
