Lotte Reiniger. Filmstills
When Lotte Reiniger's film "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" premiered in Berlin and Paris in 1926, it marked the creation of the first feature-length animated film in film history, which has lost none of its fascination to this day. Born in Berlin in 1899, the artist combined a hitherto unattained level of craftsmanship in silhouette cutting with her interest in early film experiments.

This volume presents film stills from four early films: “Prince Ahmed” from “Ornament of the Heart in Love” (1919), “Cinderella” (1922) and “Doctor Dolittle and His Animals” (1927/28). At the same time, he traces the development from ornamentally decorated short films still strongly tied to the Art Nouveau style to playful, fairy-tale-like narratives with humorous, but also highly dramatic scenes. The stills give a good indication of how great their wit and inventiveness was.
