For more than ten years, Manfred Heemann photographed places of historical significance with his cameras. The result is an image archive that over time has formed a collection in which there is an order that creates meaning: chronologically, regionally, but also aesthetically, demands can be sensed here that drive the photographer again and again into the field to expand, round out, and deepen the collection in its layers of meaning. From individual images, Heemann has developed a narrative in which all those who want to understand the past and present can find themselves. The result is a picture narrative, a photo book. A photo book that makes German history visible.
The book is published on the occasion of the exhibition in the Frankfurt gallery Heussenstamm (October 18 – 29, 2022).
