Lotte Reiniger
„Mit zaubernden Händen geboren“. Drei Scherenschnittfolgen
Reiniger set standards in all three areas of her work - silhouette, shadow theater, and film. The unifying element is the silhouette, which endures as an independent work of art as well as a moving shadow theater or film figure. The book shows three of her most beautiful silhouette series: Mozart's "Magic Flute" and "The Marriage of Figaro" as well as her animal alphabet.

Born in Berlin in 1899, Lotte Reiniger found her way to silhouette early on and developed this medium, which until then had been considered more of a craft, into an independent form of artistic expression. However, Reiniger was not only a silhouette virtuoso, probably unrivaled to this day, but also an imaginative and inventive shadow actress. Her name is also particularly closely associated with early animated film – especially through her masterpiece: “The Adventures of Prince Achmed”.
