STADT DENKEN is the annual publication of the German Academy of Urban and Regional Planning DASL, in which it presents the main results of its work for public discussion by its members and guests. Between the challenges of the pandemic, to which the 2020 annual conference and scientific colloquium fell victim, and with a view to the 100th anniversary of the Academy in 2022, the contributions collected in Volume 5 deal with the role and responsibility of spatial planning, each from a very different perspective. In the light of global challenges, primarily climate change, the necessary corrections to the guiding principles and a changed understanding of the tasks are asked for. In times of radical upheavals, the texts provide a mosaic of directions and assistance for dealing appropriately with the postulate of promoting sustainable transformation processes.
