The thematic concentration on the architecture of the city of Genoa, as a type of European city, is not only intended to highlight a focus of teaching in analysis and design. Rather, it is also based on the thesis that the architecture of the city has an outstanding role as a current topic, both in the historical context and in design terms. Genoa, with its Tipologia a Blocco, which historically grew out of the structural layout of the Strada Nuova, has shaped urban architecture for more than 200 years and after 1945 fell more and more into oblivion. It has therefore been a design task for various groups of students from Aachen and Potsdam for over a year. Also against the background that today’s concept of modern architecture (again) inevitably presupposes a reflection of the history of the site as well as the history of architecture
