The main theme of this book is the question of the usability of historical models for modern urban architecture. In this context, “collage” plays the role of provocation in the sense of alienation and appropriation of historical cityscapes that tend toward the nostalgic. “Eglise” is an almost intoxicating collection of images of French city churches as a case study on the theme of city-object-object-city. “Coppie” shows the relationship between current buildings from the office “Klaus Theo Brenner – Stadtarchitektur” and historical monuments in the sense of a correspondence in essential elements of the building form. This is combined with the thesis that modern architecture, for all its clarity and design identity as a city house and without being a stylistic copy, is at home in the historically evolved cosmos of urban architecture. This cosmos of urban architecture is, and this is the result of this design research, for connoisseurs not only historically transcends time and covers more than 2,000 years of urban planning history, it is also international. The good city with its elemental qualities is an international cultural phenomenon.
