Camaro. Hölzernes Theater

Camaro was a talented exceptional artist who abolished the boundaries between performing and visual arts for himself and became one of the most important representatives of post-war art in Germany. The Ekhof Theater in Gotha is one of the oldest baroque theaters in Germany. Camaro discovered it during his engagement as a solo dancer at the Gotha-Sondershausen State Theater. It inspired him in 1946 to create the picture cycle "Wooden Theater." The 19-part series of works is considered one of his major works. In this book, it is published in its entirety for the first time, accompanied by four scholarly texts. Photographs by Erfurt photographer Marcel Krummrich of today's Ekhof Theater complete the theme.

  • The stage, it was the great theme of Alexander Camaro (1901-1992). As a painter and poet, dancer, high-wire artist and cabaret artist, he early cultivated the possibilities of a complex interplay of the arts. After studying with Otto Müller, he trained with the pioneer of
modern expressive dance Mary Wigmann. Camaro was a talented exceptional artist who abolished the boundaries between performing and visual arts for himself and became one of the most important representatives of post-war art in Germany.
