The publishing house Ernst Wasmuth, founded in Berlin in 1872 and continuing as Wasmuth & Zohlen Verlag since 2019, celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2022. To mark the occasion, an extraordinary publishing history will be published that does not exist in this form for any other publishing house. In “Soeben erschienen” (“Just Published”), the development of the publishing house is documented on the basis of the advertisements that the publishing house published for its new publications in the trade journal Börsenblatt für den Deutschen Buchhandel from 1872 to 1943. The publisher’s output advertised here ranges from early plate works to classics of modern architectural literature and important periodicals to new types of photographic volumes. The advertisements contain not only book-related information, but also revealing statements about the content of the books, which at the same time make them documents of contemporary history. The volume is rounded off by a compact account of the 150-year history of the Ernst Wasmuth publishing house.
