WASMUTH & ZOHLEN Verlag takes over
ERNST WASMUTH Verlag from insolvency

Posted on

As of May 1, 2019, Wasmuth & Zohlen Verlag UG takes over the traditional company Ernst Wasmuth GmbH & Co. KG, Tübingen-Berlin. The publisher will resume and continue the full range of activities that were limited since mid-2018 due to insolvency. The head office is relocated to Berlin, where Ernst Wasmuth Verlag was founded in 1872. A contact office and an external editing department will remain at the former location in Tübingen.

The new shareholders – Bernhard Elias, Gerwin Zohlen, Ernst J. Wasmuth – intend to further develop and sharpen the profile, taking into account the previous focus, in order to make the publishing house again an important contributor to building culture, archeology and art on the national and international scale. The first publications shall appear in summer 2019. Brockhaus commission GmbH in Kornwestheim will remain the distributor of all currently available Wasmuth titles and the upcoming new releases.

The takeover concludes the almost one-year administration of the publishing house by the Stuttgart insolvency administrator Dr. Oliver Kirschnek (Law firm Illig Braun Kirschnek, Stuttgart). Through its constructive endeavor, the liquidation of the publishing house and thus the disappearance of one of the oldest and most important art and architecture publishers could be avoided. The objective is to combine the 150th anniversary of the year 2022 with a well-documented review of the publishing work of three generations from three centuries.
