The present work deals with finds of the Graeco-Persian period of Asia Minor. Among the antiquities in the collection of the Istanbul Archaeological Museum there are many objects of this Asia Minor-Graeco-Persian art genre. Among these objects are previously unknown finds, which are analyzed in detail for the first time in this context. The number of pieces of stone, clay, gold, silver and other precious metals treated in this catalog amounts to 138 pieces.
The investigation deals with different types of finds such as stone sculptures, toreutics, pottery, glyptic and jewelry from the area of Western Turkey and Thrace. In this context, a major concern of the work is to present the as yet unpublished architectural and sculptural finds from Daskyleion, excavated in the years 1955-1958, and to provide new results on the toreutics, glyptic and the jewelry from the Sardinian area.
These finds are products of a merging process of two very opposite cultural areas – that of the East and that of the West. Through their analysis, an attempt has been made to record and evaluate the reasons for the political-cultural and social changes that occurred during the nearly 200-year rule of the Achaemenids (546-334 B.C.) in Asia Minor through the Anatolian-Persian finds.Read in:
